In this memoir Bear tells of two of his most incredible
physical feats. The first, Facing Up, is an intimate account of his
unimaginable achievement, less than three years after that near-fatal accident,
when he became one of the youngest Britons to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The newly appointed Chief Scout had a particularly dangerous
climb in the face of severe weather conditions and dehydration.
The book also chronicles how Bear made the first ever
unassisted attempt to cross the frozen north Atlantic in an open boat. He and his crew again met death-defying conditions when they
were caught in a storm 400 miles from land.
As with his television presenting style, Bear delivers a
humble, direct account of these mind-boggling adventures. His calm and measured approach in the face of extreme danger
is inspiring and encouraging, proving just how far the human body can be pushed
and what can be achieved with dedication, bravery and ambition.
